 아그립바왕 앞에 선 바울

사도행전 26:28-29

 

 

예루살렘에서 바울을 붙잡은 유대인들은 바울의 죄를 찾으려고 노력합니다. 그러나 백부장, 천부장, 로마총독까지도 바울의 죄를 찾지 못하였습니다. 결국 아그립바왕이 총독을 대신하여 바울을 정죄하기 위해 그를 심문합니다.

 

1. 아그립바왕과 버니게

아그립바는 유대 지역에서 가장 높은 사람이었으며, 또한 헤롯의 아들로서 기독교에 대해 누구보다 잘 알고 있었습니다. 버니게는 아그립바의 여동생으로 많은 물질을 가진 여인이었습니다. 저들이 바울을 압도하기 위해 최고 화려한 옷을 입고 바울 앞에 섰으나 바울은 조금도 위축되지 않았습니다.

 

2. 바울의 변론

바울이 전한 메시아는 이스라엘에게 주신 하나님의 가장 중요한 약속이었습니다. 누구도 분명한 하나님의 약속을 부정할 수 없었습니다. 또한 바울은 자신이 만나고 경험한 예수 그리스도를 증거하였습니다. 바울의 삶을 이처럼 변화시킨 예수님은 분명 살아계신 하나님이셨습니다.

 

3. 아그립바의 반응과 바울의 순결

바울의 변론을 주의깊게 듣던 아그립바의 마음은 결국 흔들리고 말았습니다. 그리고 바울에게는 아무 죄가 없다는 것을 인정하게 되었습니다. 바울과 같이 모두가 신앙에 대한 큰 확신을 가지고 승리하며 살아가기를 바랍니다.

Acts 26:28-29

 

The Jews who had seized Paul in Jerusalem sought to find his fault. However, not even the centurion, commander, or the Roman governor could identify any wrongdoing from the Paul. On behalf of the governor, King Agrippa examines Paul with the intention of condemning him.

 

1. King Agrippa and Bernice
Agrippa was the highest person in Jewish region, and he knows well about Christianity as the son of Herod. Bernice, his sister, was a wealthy woman. Despite their attempt to overwhelm Paul by presenting themselves in grand attire, Paul remained unshaken.

 

2. Paul's Defense
What the Paul emphasized Messiah was the most important God's promise to Israel. No one could deny the clear promises of God. Paul also testified the Jesus Christ he had experienced. The transformation in Paul's life was a clear demonstration that the Jesus Christ is the living God.

 

3. Agrippa's Reaction and Paul's Innocence
As Agrippa attentively listened to Paul's defense, his heart eventually wavered. He came to the conclusion that Paul was innocent of any wrongdoing. May everyone, like Paul, live with a strong conviction in faith and overcome the difficulties of our life.
